About Star Wars Series

George Lucas, star wars creator, announced in April 2005 the upcoming of his star wars live action series in front of approximately 10,000 fans at star wars celebration III held at Indianapolis, Indiana. It has not been titled yet. It would basically be a science fiction live action TV series based on the concept of star war films. It’s slated for release in 2010 and would most probably be aired on the famous TV channel HBO.

Production team has the idea of working on some minor characters extracted from star wars galaxy rather than working on the main characters of films. Initially the series was proposed to be of about 100 1-hour long episodes but later on in 2007 at celebration Europe Rick McCallum, producer of the series, announced that it may run up to some 400 episodes. He stressed on the fact that it is something that can go on and on for several years without ending.

It has been decided that the first season of the series will be written and produced by Lucas and then from there onwards it will be handed over to executive producer. It has been anticipated by many that the style of the series would be much in line with young Indiana Jones TV series that was also created by George Lucas.

According to the information available up until now the first season is in the writing stage and it might not air anytime before 2010. According to McCallum the series will be filmed all around the world but it’s most probable that the photography base would be in Sydney. He also revealed that the series would be shot using best in class high definition television cameras doing what costs 20 million dollars under 1 million dollar.  In March 2003, actress Rose Byrne told to the MTV reporters that the selection for the series is underway and also that many of her friends have auditioned for the same.

At the celebrations III venue George Lucas answered many of the questions of his fans explaining to them that they can expect lot of connections between the star war films and the series but not necessarily between the characters. He told star war fans that the 100 episodes planned would be something in between episode III and episode IV with lot of new characters.

Most of the stories in the series would be told from the view of the minor characters extracted from star wars galaxy. Initially the series would begin as a show which would then split into four different shows each focusing on a different character. Lucas also hinted the fact that there may be some small roles or cameos as well in the series which would be done by some of the major characters from the films.

Describing the series Lucas said that this series is going to be much darker, role specific, more action packed and for more mature audiences.

The main crew of the series that is known up until this point is:
•    George Lucas (creator/story writer/producer)
•    Rick McCallum (producer)
•    And, James Marquand (director)
